Boy using an electric grinder on a post with sparks flying

If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.Proverbs: 21:13

I felt my blood pressure rising. Our friend was missing – in a country at war in plague.

We called his cell. No answer. We texted online. Silence. We asked mutual friends.  No word.

Was he sick? Hospitalized? Kidnapped? Dead?

Finally, his call came out of the blue. “I was helping families with mentally challenged kids off the grid. A surprise lockdown blocked buses, so I found my way cross-country. I got home to no electricity, so I hooked up a car battery to power my router!”

He shared the latest. Some of his volunteers subsist on bread and tea. Their kids forage for wild greens. This pandemic is compounding hyperinflation, food insecurity, violent conflict.

Yet dreamers and their volunteers are digging deep to respond during this pandemic crisis. When others turn inward in fear, they model the way forward by faith: “look not only for your own interests but also for the interests of others.”

  • Practicing amazing grace, eight orphans in Myanmar lockdown far from their tribes are hand-sewing masks for street people at greatest virus risk in their urban center.
  • Armed only with her cell phone, laptop and passion, a tech exec volunteers to match emergency patients with blood donors across sectarian lines in Lebanon’s revolution.
  • With loyal love for her two decades of students, a primary school teacher visited 62 orphans and 22 widows in rural Egypt, delivering holiday food and clothing parcels.
  • Radiating serenity, a quadriplegic activist inspired volunteers to engage 415 hungry families with gift food boxes on opposing sides of a sniper alley in Lebanon.
  • Week upon agonizing week without breaks in strict 24/7 wartime lockdown, live-in caregivers sustain severely mentally and physically challenged adult orphans.

Your ongoing encouragement has strengthened dreamers and their teams to step up in times of crisis. We invite you to join with others converging from around the world on May 5, 2020, for a unique effort to strengthen grassroot volunteer initiatives like these.

Dreams InDeed has joined that campaign – #GivingTuesdayNow – a global day of unity and generosity.

Dreams InDeed “strengthens local visionaries in hard places so the poor thrive as God intended.”  We accompany the insider with a dream to serve those who are the last in line or who are the least considered or who get lost in the shuffle.

These “dreamers” are all the more passionate to pursue their visionary missions during this pandemic. But they cannot deliver their impact without you!

We’re excited that a Dreams InDeed stakeholder has pledged a $25,000 match to double the impact of contributions from new, renewed, or increased donors, dollar-for-dollar, through June 30, 2020! When matched, this grant will enable Dreams InDeed to add talent, hone tools, and mobilize resources to strengthen and invest in these and other dreamers.

#GivingTuesdayNow on May 5 is a great way to get started, by doubling your impact. And we think it’s a terrific opportunity to spread the word. Won’t you help?

Please tell your friends and family why you believe in Dreams InDeed’s work and encourage them to support us too!  Join the movement on May 5, 2020!  Bookmark our donate link today:
